For a supply of lettuce in the winter, sow seed thinly in well drained seed boxes with the compost being finely sifted. Sterilise by pouring boiling water over the compost a few hours before sowing. Keep boxes covered until 3 or 4 leaves are showing then replant to a bed in the greenhouse.
Keep a watch on apples and pears in storage. Inspect them for rot.

Clean up leaves from lawns and compost all except evergreen leaves.
