Get a gooseberry bush. When pruning, shorten all thin, crowded and coarse growing side shoots to within 1 inch of the base. With the sturdy young shoots, cut off the tip and cut to six buds medium length shoots. Always cut just above a plump bud. Mulch aroung the gooseberry bush with seasoned manure or compost.
Finish tidying and build a bonfire to get rid of fruit cane cuttings (do not compost these) and other dead vegetation. Spread the ash on the garden to overwinter.
Think about cutting the lawn to a slightly longer length from now on. This will help to discourage moss.
